Vineyard & Cellar!

Gamitz is the perfect site for Gelber Muskateller, a grape variety difficult to cultivate. The vineyard stretches on a southwest-facing hillside that is climatically protected by two higher mountains. The soil comprises gravel, sand and some loam, interspersed with scattered gravel conglomerate banks. Here, the Muskateller vines have grown since 1963 – the year they were planted – and have since formed orrespondingly deep root systems.
Due to Styrias cool climate the grapes remain on the vines for a long period and harvest takes place in late fall. This generates a unique expression of flavors. After a very careful selection, the ripe grapes were harvested by hand during the first week of October. After a skin-contact maceration of 12 hours the grapes were pressed. The spontaneous fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and the wine aged on the fine yeast for 8 months.

Recommendations

The Gelber Muskateller is a great wine for warm summer days. It goes well with white meats like chicken and turkey, fish and sour marinated dishes. It also fits well with Asian cuisine, because its low alcohol content and fruity flavors support dishes with aromatic spices such as ginger, cinnamon, cardamom and chili.
